Crafter-Based Item Sorting
The main idea
crafter based item sorting works of a few specific crafting recipes. This opens the door to new items that weCrafters can sort automatically. And new ways to sort items and even a way to sort categories of items.
nonstackable sorting
Item voider:
A system that crafts any items with durability with every inputed item. It will successfully craft if the two items match. And the output is sent directly back into the crafters second slot this is important
This works because you input two items and output one so we say the other was voided. It’sbe used to sort items via certain recipes that normallymake can’tit likesimple tridentsto fromcheck fishingif rodsit has succeeded. While its theoretically possible to destructively sort any item that is used in a recipe, doing so would be wildly impractical.
Nonstackable Sorting
Voiders
A voider attempts to craft an inputted nonstackable with a tool (aka an item with a durability bar) stored inside of the voider. If the inputted item matches the set tool (shown as a diamond sword in the image), they will be crafted together into a single tool using the crafting repair mechanic, destructively sorting it out. If the craft fails, the inputted item is removed from the crafter in time for the next input.

Dye useSorting
Some voidersitems to delete the armour and tools andmay be leftpartially withdestructively thesorted totems.
Beds/shields
you can sort beds/shieldsby using the crafter.fact that they may be dyed. All inputted items are attempted to be dyed an initial colour, and any that succeed are separated at the crafter's output. Failed crafts are removed before the next input. Any failed crafts in the first stage are also attempted to be dyed again with a different color from the first stage. This is because youan item that is dyed cannot be dyed its color. Any succeeded crafts are merged with the output from the first stage. Failed crafts are removed before the next input from the first stage.
There are multiple items that can dye a bed and put banners on shields. These two items arebe sorted the same way but for this explanation we will talk about beds just note wheneverwith dye is mentioned it’s a banner.
similar to the item voider mentioned previously this needs a dye in the second slot of the crafter. It will attempt to craft everything that comes through the systemsorting, but only beds will be dyed (note:shulker boxes can be automatically separated afterwards. The list is as follows:

Shields

There one small edge case if a shield with a banner. This is a destructive sorting method, as shields cannot be separated from a banner after they are combined. Note that shields already appliedattached isto inputeda itbanner will notcannot be sorted. AsThis ofis writingtechnically there’sa nocombination othersorting waymethod, toso any combination sorter design will allow this if given banners as input. Please do not sort shields inlike vanilla without allays.

Miscellaneous Crafter Sorting
Combination Sorting
ForPlease bedsnote howeverthat there’scombination sorting, with the exception of dye sorting, is quite impractical, and can mostly be replaced with normal item sorters.
- Cobblestone and stone bricks may be combined with moss or vines to make their mossy versions and sort out those blocks specifically.
Unwaxed copper may be combined with honeycomb in asimilarcrafterissuetobutwaxitthemcanand sort those blocks specifically - Written books may be
solved.combinedForwiththisbook and quills up to 2 times. This copies the book and technically sorts it. Note that books that have been copied more than 2 times in a row cannot be sorted. - Activated maps may be combined with unopened maps to copy them. This copies the map and technically sorts it.
The image below is an example let’s say you haveof a whitecombination bedsorter by FireBee. The orange dye may be replaced with any combination sorting input, and the dye in the crafter is white, because you can’t dye a white bed white it won’t be sorted. However if you have another bed sorter attached to the output with a different dye like red it will dye that white bed red. This new redorange bed is sent back to the first bed sorter and it will be sorted because it’s no longer white. this is a very complicated way to sort beds but like shields it’s the only way.
Category sorting
note: this way of sorting will not output what you input as you will see.
stone types
you can sort all stone related blocks like cobblestone, stone bricks etc by converting them into mossy versions. This has very little use but it’s very interesting that this is possible.
Maps
maps are tricky to sort because they are a 64 stackable"sorted" item but have unique properties that stop them from stacking with different maps. However you can use crafters to sort them by having an empty map in the second slot of the crafter. Actually storing the maps is the main problem with this.
Unwaxed copper
note: this is completely useless but possible nonethelessoutput.
by combining honeycomb (in the second slot) with copper blocks you can sort waxed and unwaxed copper because you can’t wax already waxed copper. However the output of the crafter is waxed copper and there is currently no way to automatically remove the wax. So there’s literally no use case for this sorter.
Written books
these Can be sorted using the copy mechanic that uses a book and quill to copy a written book. However you can’t copy a book that has been copied two times and therefore can’t be sorted this way
